Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 26, 2026

Captyne ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Captyne plugin for Adobe After Effects and the website at captyne.com. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.

By creating an account, installing the Captyne plugin, or using the captyne.com website, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

Account Registration

When you create a Captyne account, we collect your first name, last name, email address, phone number, and billing address (street address, city, state/province, postal code, and country). Your password is stored as a one-way hash and is never accessible in plain text.

Machine Identifier

When you install and activate the Captyne plugin, we generate a unique machine identifier derived from hardware characteristics of your computer. This identifier is used to bind your license to your device and enforce per-device activation limits. It cannot be used to personally identify you outside of the Captyne system.

Usage Data

We may collect anonymous analytics about how the plugin is used, including which features are accessed and how often. This data does not contain any personal information, project content, or audio/video data from your After Effects projects.

Transcription Data

If you use the Managed API transcription feature, your audio is sent to Deepgram or Groq for processing on your behalf depending on the selected model. We do not permanently store your audio; it is discarded after transcription. If you use a BYOK (Bring Your Own Key) provider — OpenAI, Groq, or AssemblyAI — your audio is sent directly to that provider using your own API key and we do not receive it. If you use offline transcription, all processing happens locally on your machine and no data is sent anywhere.

2. How We Use Your Information

3. Data Storage

Your account data is stored securely on servers in the United States within a private, password-protected system. We do not use third-party CRM or marketing platforms — your data is not shared with or sold to any third parties, except as necessary to operate the services described in Section 7.

License and activation data is also stored locally on your machine in the Captyne plugin directory at %AppData%\Adobe\CEP\extensions\Captyne\license.dat.

4. Data Retention

Your account data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, your personal data — including name, email, address, phone number, and machine identifier — will be removed from our systems within 30 days. Transaction records (purchases, subscription history, payout records) may be retained longer where required for legal, tax, or financial compliance purposes.

You may request deletion of your account at any time by contacting us at privacy@captyne.com.

5. Your Rights

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@captyne.com.

6. Cookies

The captyne.com website does not use tracking cookies or third-party analytics. We use no advertising cookies. The only data stored in your browser is session-related functionality required for the website to work.

7. Third-Party Services

The Captyne plugin and website interact with the following third-party services:

8. Children

Captyne is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13 years of age.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of Captyne after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
