Is Captyne free during beta?
Yes — completely free. No credit card required. Beta access includes all features with no limitations. Early beta testers will also get priority access and early-bird pricing when the full release launches.
Does it work on Mac?
The current beta is Windows-only (Windows 10 and 11). Mac support is actively on the roadmap. Apply anyway — we’ll notify you the moment Mac support is available.
Does my footage get uploaded anywhere?
No. Transcription runs entirely on your machine using local Whisper AI. Your footage, audio, and transcription data never leave your computer. This makes Captyne suitable for confidential client work.
What languages does Captyne support for transcription?
Captyne supports all 99 languages that OpenAI Whisper supports, including English, Spanish, French, German, Arabic, Japanese, Chinese, Hindi, and many more. Language detection is automatic, but you can also specify a language manually for better accuracy.
What After Effects effects does it support?
Any built-in After Effects effect and any third-party plugin (Deep Glow, Optical Flares, Video Copilot products, etc.). Spatial effects automatically adapt to each word’s exact position and width in the comp, so they look correct regardless of word length.
Can I create custom caption styles and presets?
Yes. The custom preset creator lets you build caption styles using any combination of After Effects effects. Once saved, your presets appear alongside the built-in styles and work with the same marker-driven timing and word-relative effect system.
How long does transcription take?
Approximately 30 seconds per minute of audio on a modern CPU. With a CUDA-compatible NVIDIA GPU it is significantly faster — often real-time or faster. The Whisper model is downloaded once on first run (~1.5 GB for the recommended model).
How is Captyne different from other subtitle plugins for After Effects?
Most subtitle tools for After Effects import SRT files and create basic text layers. Captyne is different because it: (1) transcribes audio locally using Whisper AI, (2) builds fully animated caption layers with cinematic presets, (3) uses marker-driven timing so you can adjust animations without touching keyframes, and (4) supports effects that spatially adapt per-word rather than being applied uniformly.
Will Captyne work if I already have captions from another tool?
The word editor lets you manually enter or paste any transcription, so you can bring in text from an SRT file, a Word document, or any other source. You still get the full animated preset system and marker-driven timing — you just skip the AI transcription step.
