Installation Guide

Installing Captyne Beta

Follow these steps to get Captyne running in After Effects. Because this is an unsigned beta build, you may see security prompts from Chrome and Windows — this is normal. Here's exactly how to handle them.

⬇ Download Captyne Beta Installer
⚠️

Why do I see security warnings? Captyne is currently in closed beta and the installer is not yet digitally signed. This means Chrome and Windows SmartScreen will flag it as unrecognized. This is completely normal for indie beta software — the steps below show you exactly how to proceed safely.

Handling the Chrome Warning

1
Click the download button above
The installer will begin downloading. Chrome may show a warning bar at the bottom of the screen or in the downloads panel.
2
Open the Downloads panel
Click the arrow next to the download, or press Ctrl + J to open Chrome's downloads page.

Keep anyway
3
Click "Keep anyway"
Chrome will ask to confirm. Click Keep anyway. The file is safe — this warning appears because the installer is new and unsigned, not because it contains malware.

Handling the Windows SmartScreen Prompt

1
Run the downloaded installer
Double-click Captyne_Setup_Beta3.exe. Windows SmartScreen will show a blue "Windows protected your PC" dialog.

Opening Captyne in After Effects

1

Launch After Effects. If it was open during installation, restart it now.
2
Open the plugin
Go to WindowExtensionsCaptyne. If you don't see it, restart After Effects and try again.
3
Activate your beta access
Enter the email address you used to apply for beta, then click Check Status. Your key will be filled in automatically once approved.
