How to Add Your Own .ffx Animation Presets to Caption Words

Updated 1 min read

You probably own After Effects animation presets (.ffx files) you like: a pop, a blur-in, a shake. With Your Own Animations (Captyne 1.5.8 and later) every caption word gets them at the moment it appears, on top of the Captyne preset you picked.

Add an animation

  1. Open the Preview tab and find Your Own Animations (.ffx).
  2. Next to Normal words or Emphasis words, click + Add .ffx and choose the file.
  3. Add more if you like. Each one is listed, and × removes it.
  4. Generate your captions.

Switch on Remove the preset's own effects first if you want only your animations, without the effects saved in the Captyne preset.

What works best

  • Scale, Opacity, Rotation, effects and text animators work best.
  • Animations that move Position can push words out of their place in the line. Use them carefully.
  • A .ffx saved in a newer After Effects version can't be read by an older one. Captyne skips those and tells you which.

Good to know

  • Your animations stay on this computer. They are never saved into the preset, so sharing or selling a preset never shares your .ffx files.
  • If a file has been moved or deleted, it is shown crossed out in red. Add it again from its new location.
  • To build these animations into a preset of your own instead, see How to create your own caption preset.
