1. Test the style on ten seconds, not ten minutes
The slowest way to pick a caption style is to generate the whole video, dislike it, undo and try again. Set the work area (B and N) around one busy sentence and generate only that. In Captyne, the Work Area Only switch on the Preview tab does exactly this, and phrases are always kept whole.
2. Transcribe once, keep the result
Transcription is the step you least want to repeat. Captyne saves your transcript and edits with the project and restores them when you reopen it, so you never transcribe the same comp twice by accident.
3. Spend cloud minutes where they matter
If you only need captions for part of a video, transcribe only that part. Captyne's Transcribe: Work area only option uses fewer cloud minutes and still lands every word at the right time. For final captions on the whole video, transcribe the whole comp so no edge words are missed. And remember that offline transcription doesn't use any minutes at all.
4. Make punctuation a style decision
Some looks want full stops; many modern caption styles look cleaner without them. Decide once per project. Captyne has switches to hide periods, commas, and question and exclamation marks. Numbers like 3.5 and 1,000 are never touched, and sentence ends still guide grouping even when you hide them.
5. Let your settings follow you
If you caption the same show every week, you shouldn't have to set words per phrase, pause length and reveal mode every time. Captyne remembers your grouping settings between sessions and when you switch presets, and reopens with the preset you used last. One click (Use preset's values) goes back to a preset's own settings.
6. Don't be afraid to stop a build
Noticed the wrong preset two minutes into generating 600 phrases? Stop it. Captyne shows progress ("Building phrase 12 of 48") and the × button cancels cleanly: everything that run added is removed and the rest of your comp is untouched. On Mac, a progress window with a Cancel button appears during generation.
7. Split very long videos into sections
Thousands of animated layers in one comp slow down any After Effects project. Caption a long video in sections, one comp each, and precompose finished sections. Captyne 1.5.8 also made generation much faster in big projects, because After Effects no longer redraws every open comp while captions are built.
The common thread
Every habit here does the same thing: it keeps slow, expensive steps (transcription, full generation, rendering) for when you're sure, and makes the quick experiments really quick.
Caption long videos without the long nights
Every Captyne plan includes unlimited offline transcription.
